Protecting the Lumbar Disks in Flexion

If you can’t easily roll your trunk toward your legs, especially at the fourth stage of the crunch, without your feet being held, you should test the flexion of your lumbar spine:

Lie on your side in a fetal position.

Pull your knees in toward your belly and your thorax toward your knees.
